What is Area 51

What is Area 51? That in itself is a good question with (depending who you ask) lots of different answers. Let’s take a look at both the official and unofficial answers to this intriguing question.

Where is area 51 you may ask – well that’s an easy one. Area 51 is located in Groom Lake, Nevada. Its quite close to Las Vegas in distance as it is only 83 miles away. Close in one way but still very remote. Almost hidden in the desert it’s very well guarded on both the ground and in the airspace above it.

Official answer to what is Area 51

Area 51 is officially a highly classified and secretive USAF Air Base in Nevada. Its actually officially referred to as Homey Airport or Groom Lake.

Due to it’s remote nature it is often used to trial and test new and as yet unofficial aircraft. This puts it in the bracket of a United States Air Force research facility.

Previously Groom Lake has been used to test out secretive aircraft programs. In modern history it was used to test the USAF Stealth Fighter and B2 Stealth Bomber. This was prior to this new technology being unveiled to the world.

Conspiracy Theories about Area 51

The main conspiracy theory around Area 51 is that it houses extra terrestrial life forms.

Spaceships are rumoured to have crashed (ie Roswell) in various places and have had alien life forms recovered from them. These aliens whether dead or alive are believed to have been taken to Area 51 for examining.

Strange lights are said to be seen at night in the surrounding areas. Moreover aircraft moving in ways that defy conventionally known flying characteristics are also rumoured.

This has led to regular visitors to the surrounding towns giving an economic boost. These alien tourists so to speak can buy trinkets and t-shirts etc, they also give custom to local cafe’s. And maybe, just maybe the have the chance to see something from another world.
